How Much Do Solar Panels Cost in Scotland?
All panel prices are for LONGi 480W all-black N-Type panels and exclude scaffolding, which is always itemised separately. Every figure is an initial estimate, a fixed written quotation follows our free survey. Deposits are protected through the IWA scheme, and 0% VAT applies to domestic solar and battery installations until 31 March 2027.

How much do solar panels cost in Scotland?

Panels-only systems run £4,695–£6,000 for 7 panels (3.36 kWp) up to £10,500–£12,500 for 18 panels (8.64 kWp), excluding scaffolding, one elevation £900, front and rear £1,800, always itemised separately. Our Standard system, 10 LONGi 480W panels, GoodWe hybrid inverter and 5.12 kWh battery, is £8,795 installed. Every figure is an initial estimate; a fixed written quotation follows our free survey.
Are there solar panel grants in Scotland in 2026?

No standalone grant currently exists, the Home Energy Scotland solar route closed in June 2024. The real support is 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, Smart Export Guarantee income, and finance. Be wary of anyone claiming otherwise.
Does solar actually work in Scotland?

Often, not always. Batteries lift self-use to around 70% and unlock premium evening export rates on smart tariffs, but on low usage, panels-first can be smarter. We'll give you the maths, not the upsell.
What Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) rates can I get?

Smart Export Guarantee rates range from roughly 15p/kWh flat to 30p+/kWh at peak on smart tariffs with a battery. We'll recommend the tariff strategy alongside the hardware, the tariff choice can matter as much as the panels.
Do I need planning permission?

Most house installations fall under permitted development; listed buildings, conservation areas and flats need checks. We flag any planning question at survey, honestly and early.
How long does installation take?

Most domestic systems are installed in one to two days, scaffold to handover.
Is my deposit protected?

Yes, through the IWA deposit protection scheme, and we're RECC members, which sets standards for how solar is sold. Ask any installer you're comparing for the same two answers.
Can solar charge my electric car?
