The GivEnergy administration explained — and what every Scottish homeowner with solar should know
If you have a GivEnergy battery storage system installed at your home, you may have already heard the news. GivEnergy Ltd entered administration on 9 April 2026, leaving thousands of UK homeowners with questions about their system, their warranty, and who supports them going forward.
At Thermal Care, we installed GivEnergy systems for a number of our customers, and we want to be completely straight with you about what this means — and what we’re doing to support you.
We’re also using this post to answer a wider question that more homeowners should probably think about before they invest in solar: what actually happens if your supplier goes bust?

What happened with GivEnergy?
GivEnergy was, until recently, one of the most recognised names in UK residential battery storage. The company made hybrid inverters, home battery systems, and EV chargers, and had built a strong presence in the solar market.
In April 2026, the company filed a Notice of Intention to Appoint Administrators, and formally entered administration on 9 April 2026 with Christopher Brooksbank of CB Business Recovery appointed as Administrator. All 35 employees were made redundant, and the company has ceased trading.
The collapse followed a difficult financial period. The company’s 2024 annual report showed revenue of £50.3 million but an operating loss of £6.5 million, a significant swing from the £6.2 million profit the previous year. Falling margins and intense competition from lower-cost overseas manufacturers are cited as contributing factors.
Will your GivEnergy system still work?
Yes — in the short term at least. Your battery hardware operates independently and will continue to store and release electricity as normal. The administration of the trading company does not affect the physical equipment already installed in your home.
The monitoring app and cloud portal are managed by a separate entity, GivEnergy Software Ltd, which has not entered administration. These services remain operational at present, though the situation is still developing and there is no guarantee of long-term continuity. It is worth noting that GivEnergy Software has announced it will move to a paid subscription model for premium cloud features such as remote access, historical data, and automation from May 2026. Local access over your home network is expected to remain free.
Our advice: log in and take screenshots of your system settings and performance data now, while you have access. This gives you a useful baseline if anything changes down the line.
What about the warranty?
This is where things become less straightforward. The administrator has confirmed that no further hardware warranties will be honoured by GivEnergy Ltd. Any existing warranty claims are now subject to the administration process, which means they are unlikely to be fulfilled in the way originally intended.
It’s a frustrating situation, and we understand that for many homeowners a warranty was an important part of the purchasing decision. What it means practically is that any future faults or component failures will need to be assessed and resolved through your installer, rather than the manufacturer.
What Thermal Care is doing for affected customers
If we installed your GivEnergy system, we remain your first point of contact. As an MCS-accredited installer, our responsibility to you does not end with the manufacturer.
We can help with:
- System diagnostics — to assess the current condition and performance of your system
- Fault finding and repair — including sourcing compatible third-party components where available
- Honest advice on your options — whether that’s continuing with your existing setup, extending with new equipment, or replacing components
- Upgrade or replacement solutions — if your system reaches end of life or a fault cannot be repaired cost-effectively
We’re actively monitoring developments around GivEnergy’s administration and will update customers directly if there are any material changes that affect your system or your options.

What should you do right now if you have a GivEnergy system?
Here’s a practical checklist:
- Check your system is operating normally — the display panel or app should confirm it’s charging and discharging as expected
- Screenshot or note down your system settings — tariff schedules, charge/discharge windows, and any custom configurations
- Save your performance history — export or record recent generation and usage data from the app while it’s available
- Locate your original installation documents — including your MCS certificate, which may be relevant if you are on the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)
- Contact us if you have any concerns — we’re here to assess your system and advise on next steps
The bigger picture: what this means for solar buyers
GivEnergy’s collapse is a reminder that the manufacturer of your solar or battery equipment is only one part of the picture. The long-term value and reliability of any solar installation depends heavily on who installed it.
When a manufacturer goes under, your installer is your safety net. An MCS-accredited installer is trained, vetted, and accountable. MCS certification is not just a badge — it’s a requirement for accessing government incentives like the Smart Export Guarantee, and it means your installer is operating to a defined standard of competence and conduct.
Before you invest in solar — whether panels, battery storage, or both — it’s worth asking:
- Is my installer MCS-certified?
- Are they based locally and able to support me in the long term?
- What happens if the equipment manufacturer ceases trading?
- Does the quote include clarity on who handles warranty claims — the installer, the manufacturer, or both?
At Thermal Care, we’ve been installing solar in Scotland for years, and we design every system with longevity in mind. We use equipment from manufacturers we trust, and we stand behind our installations. But we also know the industry well enough to give you an honest picture — including the risks.
